The Samsung J800 is a classy little phone, with simple but effective features and joyfully easy-to-use controls.
Aesthetically, the J800 is all class. The exterior is silver and glossy, with a grey finish to enhance the stylish look (and to cover up fingerprints). The device is impressively sturdy for a slider phone. The slider itself is spring-operated and while the J800 is a bit on the large side (weighing 100g exactly), this doesn’t take away from its good looks. Even the keys are fashionable, with a shiny, smooth chrome finish.
These keys are very large and perfect for texting, even if you have sausage fingers. The J800 also sports a five-way navigational pad and two selection buttons for navigation. Menu layout is exceptional, with stylish silver icons instead of cartoony images seen in many other models. The user interface running on the Samsung J800 ensures navigation is exceptionally easy, and it’s especially smooth and very fast.
Sound quality is not an issue with the Samsung J800. Call quality is reasonable and the volume options range from quiet to startlingly loud, so you can have a conversation even if trains are rushing past.
Features on the Samsung J800 include a 2.2-megapixel camera, and although it doesn’t have a flash it still takes fine photos. The camera can also be used to record 176x144 resolution videos. An added bonus is the VGA camera mounted on the front of the handset. This can be used for video calls over a 3G network on the 2100MHz band.
The Samsung J800 boasts Bluetooth functionality, an e-mail client (POP3/IMAP4), inbuilt Java applications and an FM radio with RDS support. An organiser, voice recorder, MicroSD card slot and currency converter add to the charms of this sleek Samsung model.
