Released at the same time as the N85, the Nokia N79 is a solid handset with a pleasing set of features and a great modern look.

The Nokia N79 looks similar to some of the other candy bar handsets being produced by the Finnish telecommunication giant; there is the familiar navigation pad and key set up, the large, almost boxy structure and the well sized numerical keypad.

What is new is the XpressOn cover feature. The N79 allows you to enjoy the familiarity of a Nokia handset while at the same time making your phone your own by having replaceable backplates. You can pick and choose between a range of different colours, and when you find a colour you like and pop it on the back, the screen of the N79 will automatically change colour to match!

Fun chameleon like features aside, the Nokia N79 is a very capable mobile phone. All of the connection options you could ever want or need are present, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA and GPS. The GPS feature comes in handy when taking photos, as you can geotag them and record exactly where it was taken. Physical connections can occur between the N79 and a PC thanks to the Micro-USB port, and extra files can be stored or transferred thanks to the microSD card slot in the back.

Having this extra storage option is great, as the N79 packs a powerful 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. This lens is so good that it has its own cover. Taking good photos is easy thanks to the auto focus function and a dual LED flash. You can also store music and videos on the microSD card for the inbuilt multimedia player. This music and video player supports a range of file types including Windows Media files, MP3, Flash and AAC. If you can't decide what music you would like to take with you in the N79, never fear, because there is an FM radio built in as well, for an alternative audio option.

Extra options of the audio variety include the ability to listen to your tunes via headphones, or wirelessly via an FM transmitter. You can use your own headphones thanks to Nokia's thoughtful inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack, or you could play your music through a car radio, similar to an iPod iTrip system.  It's these little options that make the N79 such a winner.
