A sophisticated touchscreen handset but without the boring business bits, the Samsung F480 is intelligent and gorgeous to boot.
Wrapped in a slim design and stylish metal casing, the Samsung F480 utilises a responsive 2.8-inch touchscreen display instead of an ordinary keypad, gently vibrating when you press the on-screen buttons and finger-friendly menu. Something about the brushed metal finish and solid weight just makes the F480 feel nice to hold, and to use.
Samsung are using a capacitive touchscreen with the F480, so the screen responds to the heat from your fingers. This means that you don't need a stylus, and in general this kind of technology results in a more responsive display.
The user interface of the F480 is colourful, well designed and straightforward to work with. TouchWiz widgets are employed in the home page, allowing you to shortcut to features and services such as Next G and mobile Foxtel. The big screen is particularly great for this.
Taking photos is fun with the 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, image stabilisation and auto-focus. While there is no Wi-Fi or GPS, the F480 uses ultra-fast 3G technology so you can deftly browse the web, and includes Bluetooth and email. The pre-installed browser is excellent, giving you your favourite websites in a mobile friendly format. There is also a decent music player that supports a range of files, and a microSD card slot for adding storage. To listen to your favourite tracks you can use the supplied headphones or the 3.5mm adapter in conjunction with your own set of headphones.
