Vodafone offering Android protection for $3/month
Android is a fun free for all compared to Apple’s closed shop, but that comes with a steep price- a virus was recently uncovered that was scattered throughout several, attention grabbing apps (ie. those that promise naked ladies or free wallpapers), and more serious instances of fake bank apps that “phish” for users banking details have also come to light.
In response to this McAfee, makers of PC virus-busting software, have developed a suite for Android. Vodafone have started offering the suite for $3 a month, or $36 a year. The features include remote swipe (where, if you lose your phone, you can remotely wipe all of its data), location (tracking the location of a locked or stolen phone from a computer) and running protection from online threats and “malware”, invasive software that offers little utility and can slow down your system.
Many of these features are already provided free by Android, and the penetration of viruses into the Android ecosystem is still quite low. But with so much data zipping around on our handsets these days, Vodafone’s deal si certainly worth a look in.
