Google’s next Android operating system has been dubbed the “Ice Cream Sandwich,” and rumours suggest we could see the system arrive within the next couple of months. Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to merge the phone and tablet operating systems into the one tool for a “one size fits all” operating system.
Tech news sites suggest that we could see the Ice Cream Sandwich make its first appearance on a new Samsung phone, which is expected to be called the Nexus Prime. Samsung is set to host an Android event in San Diego on October 11 where the Nexus Prime is expected to arrive. This date is also just one week after the iPhone 5 and the Apple iOS 5 are rumoured to be making their debut.
Smartphone fans have already been treated to a two-minute tour of the Nexus Prime via a leaked online video. A lucky eBay shopper found himself the owner of a Samsung phone operating Ice Cream Sandwich, and gave other users a taste test of the new Android phone.
The Ice Cream Sandwich has been designed to run on both smaller smartphones as well as larger tablet devices. Apps which run on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb will also be compatible with the Ice Cream Sandwich.
