If you’re looking for something to do during those long train trips, watching TV is an entertaining way to pass the time. We’re not suggesting you lug around a 42-inch flat screen – television has now arrived on your mobile phone.
Have you ever seen somebody on the train staring at their mobile phone screen looking really entertained? That could be you! Most major mobile plan providers will be able to offer you a mobile TV pack so you don’t ever have to miss an episode of The Biggest Loser.
Mobile TV is available when you’re in a 3G-coverage area with a 3G capable handset. Each plan provider offers something a little different. Tip: don’t sit too close to your mobile or your eyes may go square.
Vodafone
A Vodafone Mobile TV Bumper Pack is available for post-paid customers for an extra $14.95 for all channels, or an extra $8 for a news and sports pack, or music and entertainment pack. TV programmes are streamed to your mobile, and if you receive a call the TV programme will automatically pause. Vodafone are offering their customers their first month free with the Mobile TV Bumper Pack, and you can stop the service at any time. Shows include South Park, The Biggest Loser and E! Entertainment.
3

It will set you back an extra $8 or $18 depending on how much Foxtel you need to get you through the day. Whatever channels you choose to subscribe to, you’ll also receive bonus access to SKY NEWS and The Weather Channel.
Optus
Optus TV works in a similar way to the Vodafone and 3 mobile TV packs, but it’s streamed via Optus Zoo. Optus charges $1 per day or $3 per month for each channel. There are also value packs available for TV addicts. Optus channels include Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV.
Virgin
Virgin offers mobile TV to their customers via The Vibe (‘where the fun begins on your phone’). Be aware with Virgin if you download any TV programmes it will come out of your monthly data allowance.
