On May 13th, 2010 Optus recorded its strongest growth levels to date as its share of the Australian mobile market grew by 11 per cent.
Optus mobile services flourished in the last quarter increasing its customer base by 254,000, as annual net additions reached 709,000 and profit margins grew by 30 percent (EBITA). Optus also recorded a 17 per cent growth in post-paid mobile customers and over 3.6 million new 3G customers, which means Optus mobile now services over 900,000 Australians.
Overall, Optus’s operating revenue has soared over the previous quarter and the entire last year.
‘Optus’s strategy to provide innovative, value driven offers as well as exceptional customer experience is clearly reaping results, with six consecutive quarters of double-digit mobile service revenue growth, the strongest quarter for new mobile customer additions in five years. said SingTel CEO Paul O’Sullivan.
The growth in Optus’s infrastructure has certainly facilitated the increase in customers and profits. Optus was able to boost mobile internet data services with the purchase of new spectrum licenses from Qualcomm. There was also an increase in revenue and customers through Optus broadband as Optus continues to roll out its cable (HFC) network that should arrive in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne some time this year.
Optus is certainly gaining solid ground in the Australian telecommunications market and this is set to continue when the government introduces the new National Broadband Network to Australia.
