Rumour has it the new Google Nexus One smartphone will possibly arrive in Australia by mid 2010 thanks to VHA and Optus. Although both telcos are yet to officially announce the Nexus One’s release, Android Australia posted a screenshot of the new Google smartphone together with a Vodafone logo. There has also been a forum conversation in which a Vodafone representative mentions a mid-June release date.
Google is keen to introduce the new Android mobile phone to more countries via various global telecommunications companies, but VHA, Optus, and even Google have yet to officially confirm anything concrete for Australia.
‘We'd love to see the Nexus One come to more countries, but we've nothing to announce about availability in Australia at this time.’ said a Google statement.
HTC are the creators of the Google Nexus One phone and it performs similar functions to the HTC Desire smartphone that is currently available through Telstra. Vodafone is all set to release the new Android-powered smartphone in Europe, and Google fans are hoping for a simultaneous release in Australia.
There are several smartphones arriving in Australia this year. These include the HTC Legend, the HTC Dream and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, all of which are likely to be available through Optus.
